Voltage optimisation can yield significant energy savings where equipment in sensitive to changes in voltage. Such equipment includes fluorescent and incandescent lamps, fixed speed pumps, uncontrolled refrigeration, and flow controlled HVAC systems. In facilities where voltage-sensitive equipment is present and is a significant driver of consumption in the facility, voltage optimisation may present an opportunity for energy savings.

In 2021/22, Council's Capital Works & Waste team budgeted for voltage optimisation at Council's Beechworth Offices (The Pines), which is Council's largest electricity consumer. The Assets & Property and Environment & Sustainability teams investigated the suitability and return on investment and concluded that the budgeted funds would be better spent on ground-mounted solar.
