2. Climate actions in our Community

Indigo Shire Council is also committed to supporting our amazing communities to reduce emissions, adopt renewable technologies, and adapt to climate change.

We're empowering our community organisations with sustainability grants, which enable eco-friendly projects such renewable energy and energy efficiency projects at community buildings across the shire.

We've also joining forces with other like-minded organisations through actively participating in local and regional climate partnerships. By working together and sharing ideas and resources, we will help build more resilient and climate-ready communities.

The actions we're taking in our community are grouped into the broad categories shown below.

2.1. Community sustainability grants
We provide annual community sustainability grants for solar generation and energy efficiency improvements at community facilities.
2.2. Supporting low emissions transport
We encourage the uptake of low emissions transport by supporting the installation of public EV charging infrastructure.
2.3. Climate partnerships
We are active in local and regional climate partnerships, such as the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance.
2.4. Naturally Cooler Indigo project
We are increasing the natural shade in our towns with the aim of reducing the urban heat island effect.
2.5. Supporting resident and business climate action
We support residents and businesses to undertake climate actions, through Goulburn Murray Solar Savers and Environmental Upgrade Agreements (EUAs).
