Council’s Our climate action platform has been nominated as a finalist in this year’s Tidy Towns & Cities Sustainability Awards, in the Energy category. Winners are being announced at an awards ceremony on Saturday 28th October in Melbourne. We would like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of our local Tidy Towns Committee for this nomination.
COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY GRANTS AWARDED!
Three fantastic community sustainability projects were endorsed at the September 2024 Council meeting and will share $19,332 in funding through Council’s Community Sustainability Grants Program (2024/25). Congratulations to the successful applicants Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club Inc, Osbornes Flat Community Centre Inc, and Beechworth Urban Landcare & Sustainability Inc. This brings the total to 31 community-led sustainability projects being funded by Council over seven years.

After months of staff and community consultation, Council’s Climate Change Policy (2024) was adopted at the August 2024 Council meeting. We would like to say a big thankyou to everyone that provided input, particularly the Indigo Environment Advisory Committee (IEAC).
APPLY NOW! Community Sustainability Grants Program (2024/25)
Council's 2024/25 Community Sustainability Grants Program is now open. A total pool of $21,320 in funding is available for eligible community initiatives. Applications must be submitted by 4pm Monday 5th August.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Council's Climate Change Policy is being reviewed
Council is reviewing its Climate Change Policy, and the draft 2024 policy is on public exhibition until 5pm Tuesday 16th July.
New public EV chargers available for Indigo Shire residents and visitors
The number of public EV chargers in Indigo Shire has increased to four with Chiltern (Chiltern Community Hub) and Rutherglen (Murray St carpark) the latest recipients of 50 kW public EV chargers being installed by Evie Networks in partnership with Council. The chargers are part of Evie Networks' statewide project funded through the Victorian Government's Destination Charging Across Victoria (DCAV) Grant Program.
New EV chargers installed at Council facilities for fleet vehicles
A network of seven EV chargers for Council fleet has been installed at our offices and works depots across Indigo Shire. These 22kW EV chargers will help Council transition our fleet to low emissions alternatives to help us reach Net Zero by 2035. This project -Charging Towards Net Zero for Indigo - was supported by the Victorian Government's EV Charging for Council Fleets program.
Solar PV and battery system to benefit Tangambalanga community group
An 8.88kW solar PV + 13.8 kWh battery system was recently installed at a Council building occupied by the Kiewa Tangambalanga Lions Club. This renewable energy project was jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government via Sustainability Victoria's Community Climate Change and Energy Action grants program.
