1. Climate actions at Council

Indigo Shire Council is on a mission to cut our greenhouse gas emissions and become certified NET ZERO by 2035.

Our Emissions Reduction Plan is like a treasure map leading us towards a more sustainable future. We've identified a bunch of actions to cut the emissions produced by our buildings and facilities, fleet and plant, office waste, and our contractors.

We're undertaking actions to tackle Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in a quest to make a real difference across the organisation.

We've grouped these actions into the broad categories shown below.

1.1. Tracking our emissions
We quantify and track our greenhouse gas emissions using the carbon accounting platform Trellis.
1.2. Reducing our building & facility emissions
Actions we're taking to reduce emissions from electricity, gas and water consumed at our buildings, facilities and streetlighting.
1.3. Reducing our fleet, plant & transport emissions
Actions we're taking to reduce emissions from the diesel and unleaded petrol consumed by our fleet vehicles and plant.
1.4. Reducing our contractor emissions
Actions we're taking to improve our sustainable procurement policies, procedures and practices.
1.5. Reducing our waste emissions
Actions we're taking to reduce emissions from the waste produced at our offices, depots and customer service centres.
1.6. Offsetting our remaining emissions
We will offset our remaining emissions by purchasing carbon credits to reach certified Net Zero by 2035.
